Benghazi Medical Center Hosts the 3rd Shoulder Surgery Conference with the Participation of Leading International Surgeons

As part of its ongoing efforts to advance medical practice and promote the exchange of global expertise, Benghazi Medical Center is preparing to host the 3rd Shoulder Surgery Conference, one of the most prominent international scientific gatherings in the field. The event will take place on November 7–8, 2025, in Benghazi, Libya.

The conference aims to enhance surgical and clinical skills in shoulder and elbow surgery by transferring advanced knowledge and expertise from distinguished international specialists to surgeons and physicians in the region, with a focus on implementing the latest modern and complex surgical techniques.

The scientific program features interactive sessions, workshops, and live surgeries covering three main themes:
1. Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty (RTSA):
The latest techniques in shoulder joint replacement for complex cases.
2. Rotator Cuff Tears:
Presentation of advanced treatment algorithms and arthroscopic repair techniques.
3. Shoulder Instability:
Discussion of the newest approaches to managing recurrent cases, including the Latarjet procedure.

The conference is distinguished by offering direct hands-on learning through live surgeries across all themes, giving participants a unique opportunity to follow each surgical step under the supervision of leading international experts.

This event represents a significant scientific addition to Benghazi Medical Center and reaffirms its pioneering role in localizing advanced surgical training and strengthening Libya’s position as a regional hub for medical excellence and education.

Uni-Condylar knee Chapter 24 – 25 july 2025

Keeping pace with the latest advancements in the health sector, and for the first time in Libya, three Partial Knee Replacement surgeries were successfully performed during the Fifth Knee Surgery Training Course, held in the city of Sabratha under the supervision of the Medical Specialties Board and the Libyan Society of Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery, at Al-Rasheed Hospital in Salah Al-Din.

This surgical procedure aims to replace only the damaged portion of the knee joint while preserving the healthy parts, and is used to treat unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis confined to a single compartment.

First Shoulder Workshop

The Head of the Department of Anatomy and Embryology inaugurated a workshop on shoulder anatomy and surgery, organized in collaboration with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, with the attendance of a number of students, physicians, and surgeons.

In his opening remarks, the department head welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of this workshop as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and exchange knowledge among different medical departments. He noted that the shoulder is a complex part of the human body and presents significant challenges in both anatomy and surgical practice.

He added that the workshop will highlight the latest techniques and approaches in shoulder anatomy and surgery, in addition to discussing practical cases and the challenges faced in this specialty.

He expressed his gratitude to the Department of Orthopedic Surgery for their cooperation in organizing this event, as well as to all speakers and participants for their efforts.

The workshop aims to provide substantial benefit to all attendees and to enhance knowledge and skills in this important medical field.

Basic and intermediate knee arthroscopy course and workshop

This Friday evening, 13 December 2024, the Second International Training Course on Knee Arthroscopy Surgery was held at Benghazi Medical Center, with both local and regional attendance.

This course comes as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance physicians’ competencies and develop their surgical skills. The program includes interactive lectures, workshops, and physical therapy sessions delivered via Zoom by specialists from the United States and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to local lecturers in physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

The event also featured live surgical operations, broadcast directly from the operating rooms to the lecture hall.

Dr. Al-Fadhli concluded by expressing his gratitude and appreciation to everyone who contributed to organizing this course, including the administration of the medical center, the organizing committee, and the sponsoring companies.

We are privileged this year to host a remarkable group of experts and renowned surgeons from Turkey, Germany, Tunisia, and Egypt and Algeria, whose valuable knowledge and rich expertise have greatly enriched our scientific program and added diversity and excellence to the conference activities.

We also extend our appreciation to the contributing and participating companies for organizing outstanding workshops that played a significant role in enhancing the skills and updating the knowledge of the attending physicians.

On this special occasion, we express our deep gratitude to the pioneers of orthopedic surgery, whose foundational contributions have shaped and strengthened this vital specialty. Today’s recognition is but a small gesture compared to their lasting efforts and remarkable achievements.

LAAS Participates in the International Conference on Joint Surgery in Algeria

Algiers – November 2, 2024

The Libyan Association for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery participated in the Annual Conference of the Algerian Society for Knee, Hip, and Joint Surgery, which commenced on Friday, November 2, in the Algerian capital, Algiers. The conference witnessed wide participation from a large number of specialists in orthopedic and joint surgery from around the world.

The Libyan participation was represented by the President of the Association, Consultant Orthopedic and Joint Surgeon Dr. Saleh Abu Maharra, and a member of the Association’s Advisory Committee, Dr. Ali Khalil. Both presented scientific papers on joint surgery in Libya and the successes achieved in this field. Their presentations were well received by the participants and were the subject of study and discussion.

During the conference, the Libyan Association for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery announced its Third Conference, scheduled to take place next December in the city of Tripoli. The invitation was accepted by the conference participants.

The conference represents a valuable opportunity for medical specialists from around the world to meet and exchange expertise and experiences in the field.

It is worth noting that the conference was inaugurated by the Algerian Minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, who emphasized the importance of holding scientific meetings aimed at exchanging information and experiences in orthopedic surgery, especially during this period, which is witnessing remarkable progress in the use of the latest technologies that contribute to the success of orthopedic and joint surgeries.

He also stressed the necessity of implementing the recommendations issued by the conference, given their importance and role in developing this highly specialized field.

The Fourth Annual Course of Basic Principles of Trauma

The training course on the Fundamentals of Fracture Management commenced today, 7–8 June 2023, featuring a series of lectures, discussions, and workshops held over two consecutive days at Radison Hotel in Tripoli.

The course included fifty physicians from various hospitals across Libya, and was supervised by twenty professors representing different medical institutions.

Scientific Day on Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction of the Knee Joint

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Joints at the University Hospital organized a Scientific Day this Thursday morning on ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) Reconstruction of the Knee, under the patronage of the Libyan Society of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery and the supervision of the Scientific Council of Orthopedics at the Medical Specialties Board.

The event featured the participation of a distinguished group of orthopedic and joint surgeons from hospitals in Tripoli and the surrounding areas. It included several scientific lectures presented by the participating physicians, addressing ACL injuries and reconstruction surgery, performed safely and using the most up-to-date, evidence-based medical techniques that help patients regain normal movement after recovery

we emphasized the continuation of organizing scientific days in the specialty of orthopedic and joint surgery, particularly focusing on ACL reconstruction and sports injuries, given the importance of providing such treatment at the University Hospital, which serves as a center of expertise in this highly specialized field

The first scientific conference of the Libyan Society of Arthroscopy and Arthroplastic Surgery has concluded its activities, focusing on the challenges and issues related to knee joint diseases and knee replacement, with the aim of providing safe and effective healthcare services, enhancing physicians’ professional development, and strengthening their clinical skills in this specialized field.

This important scientific event was organized in coordination with the Department of Orthopedic and Joint Surgery at Sabratha Hospital and the Libyan Board of Orthopedic Surgery, with substantial support from Sabratha Hospital and several specialized joint replacement companies and supportive pharmaceutical companies.
